BEFORE YOU START
Short two- to three-day fasts are an excellent way to detoxify your body. Fasting for three days should only be done under a doctor’s supervision. Detox fasting should be done several times yearly to keep your body healthy.
A. DRINK WATER
- Drink two quarts of plain water daily.
B. WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR?

- Fasting can produce exciting changes in your body, so be aware before you begin. Here are some precautions you need to consider.
- You may experience lightheadedness. This may happen if you get up too quickly. Therefore, do not rise suddenly from lying or sitting during your fast period.
- You may experience energy changes. Some people become very fatigued during a fast, possibly in the initial stage. Others feel much more energetic as energy levels increase.
- Your sleep habits may change. You may not need as much sleep at night as you are more rested during the day.
- You should get plenty of rest. During a fast, you will need plenty of rest at night or during the day. This gives the body a chance to focus on repair.
- You should limit physical activity. Take some time away from work or regular duties to walk in the park or on the beach or do other relaxing activities.
- Constipation may be a problem. Increase liquid and fiber content. Lemon juice and hot drinks can stimulate the colon.
- You may have cold hands and feet. This may be due to lower glucose levels.
- Your tongue may become coated. This signals that your body is detoxifying.
- You may experience bad breath. Just keep brushing your teeth and tongue.
- Skin eruptions may appear. Acne boils, and skin rashes are signs that your body is excreting toxins through your skin, the body’s largest excretory organ.
- Body odor. Toxins may excrete through the sweat glands and cause you to have an offensive body odor.
- Nausea and vomiting may also occur during a fast. This indicates mild dehydration. Keep drinking lots of fluids.
- Your urine may appear darker than usual. This means that your body is shedding poisons or that you need to drink more liquids. Increase your water intake.
- You may have added mucous drainage from your sinuses, bronchial tubes, and GI tract. This is the body’s way of removing stored toxins.
C. WHEN TO DRINK JUICES?
- Drink juices immediately after juicing; do not store them, as they lose their nutritional value within a few hours.
